Trà Vinh outlines plan to improve competitiveness

HCM CITY – The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Trà Vinh has released a plan to improve its Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI), according to the chairman of its People’s Committee

All localities have been told to accelerate the pace of administrative reforms, while agencies are expected to hold more meetings with businesses to address their problems, Đồng Văn Lâm.said

The province also to invest more in information technology and infrastructure, and devise more pro-business policies.

Lâm asked the Department of Planning and Investment, business associations and related agencies to set up twice-yearly meetings with businesses and provincial authorities to discuss problems businesses are facing.

He also asked provincial authorities to continue the monthly Business Coffee meeting.

After the province ranked 58th among 63 cities and provinces in the proportion of trained labourers, the provincial Labour and Social Affairs Department began devising plans to provide training for workers in line with businesses’ requirements.

Trà Vinh ranked 37th nationwide in the 2017 PCI, up five places from 2016 under rankings released by the Việt Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  It led the country in terms of “unofficial” costs.
Last year Trà Vinh began to see more investment attraction, contributing to economic growth. It attracted 76 new projects with total investment of about US$252 million. –VNS
