HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Đăng Nguyên was appointed General Director of the Việt Nam Mobile Telecom Services Corporation (MobiFone) on Wednesday.
Nguyên, who is former deputy General Director of MobiFone, was announced as the head of the corporation a day after the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) announced its decision to dismiss Cao Duy Hải from his position as General Director of MobiFone due to violations related to the firm’s deal of purchasing 95 per cent of multimedia company Audio Visual Global (AVG).
Nguyên has served as Deputy General Director at MobiFone for many years, in charge of the technology section.
Nguyên plans to solve the problems involved in MobiFone’s coverage and build information technology from a traditional telecommunications service provider to become a provider of integrated telecommunications and IT services.
Earlier, the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission announced on June 2 that the Party Committee of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) had committed serious violations in the case. The committee failed to seriously implemented the principles of the Party’s operation, violated the principle of democratic centralism and working regulations; showed a lack of responsibility, and relaxed its leadership, management, inspection and monitoring.
All of this, the inspection commission said, resulted in the MIC and MobiFone Telecommunication Corporation seriously violating legal regulations on assessing, approving and conducting the project, resulting in huge losses to the State budget. — VNS
