HÀ NÔI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has agreed in principle to adjustments to the planning of Bãi Thơm Commune in Kiên Giang Province’s Phú Quốc Island.
The adjustments were proposed by the provincial People’s Committee.
Local authorities were asked to update the adjustments on the island’s master plan by 2030 and to enhance management activity to ensure the implementation of the plan is compliant with land regulations, urban planning and construction planning.
Phú Quốc Island’s master plan was approved in May 2010 and was adjusted once, in June 2016.
The plan targeted promoting sustainable development, culture, environment protection and security and harmonising economic growth with the preservation of historical monuments.
Phú Quốc will be developed into a hub for high-quality services and a centre for science and technology in Southeast Asia, with an international airport and seaport system connecting it with other destinations in the region.
Phú Quốc was among three localities, besides Bắc Vân Phong in central Khánh Hòa Province and Vân Đồn in northern Quảng Ninh Province, planned for development into a special administrative-economic unit. — VNS
