HÀ NỘI — Forbes updated the net worth of Phạm Nhật Vượng, founder and chairman of Vingroup, one of Việt Nam’s largest conglomerates, at US$3.4 billion as of Tuesday.
This comes one day after Vincom Retail was listed on the exchange, and was an increase of $1 billion since March. Vượng ranked 666th in the real-time ranking of the Forbes World Billionaires List.
His rank in the 2007 World Billionaires List was 867th.
Vượng’s assets increased significantly in the past month, fuelled by the listing of Vincom Retail which operates 41 shopping centre under popular brands Vincom Centre, Vincom Mega Mall and Vincom Plaza, with a total area of more than 1.1 million square metres in 22 provinces and cities.
Vincom Retail, listed on the HCM Stock Exchange as VRE, increased 20 per cent over its debut price of VNĐ33,800 (US$1.5) to close at VNĐ40,500 on its first trading day. On Wednesday morning, VRE was traded at VNĐ40,550 per share.
The company became one of the top 10 largest companies by market capitalisation in Việt Nam, with a market capitalisation hitting more than VNĐ77 trillion.
Vượng and Nguyễn Thị Phương Thảo, CEO of budget carrier Vietjet, are the only two Vietnamese named in the Forbes Billionaire List.
Thảo had a real-time net worth of $1.9 billion as of Tuesday, ranking 1247th.
Thảo’s net worth increased by $740 million since March. Her rank in the 2017 Forbes Billionaires List was 1678th. — VNS
