HÀ NỘI  — The 14th National Assembly (NA) ratified a draft law on forestry on Wednesday as part of its fourth session in Hà Nội.
Approved by 87.78 per cent of deputies, the forestry law consists of 12 chapters with 108 articles stipulating management, protection, development and use of forests, along with processing and trade of forest products.
The law states that the State is in charge of issuing policies to invest in and mobilise social resources for forestry activities.

It has to organise and support the management, protection and development of commercial forests, while supporting forest recovery, afforestation, along with research and application of science and advanced technology in the field of forestry.
The State also has the job of training human resources for this sector, providing forest environmental services, managing forests sustainably, processing and trading forest products, and implementing forestry co-operation with foreign partners.
The State has to ensure ethnic people and people whose livelihoods depend on forests are allowed to use forests and associated land for agro-forestry, fish production and practise forest-linked cultures in line with Government regulations. — VNS
