HÀ NỘI (VNS) — Viet Nam’s Internet speed was ranked 12th in the Asian region, according to a report recently released by the US-based content delivery network service provider Akamai Technologies.

The report on the State of the Internet showed that Viet Nam’s average Internet connection speed in the third quarter of 2015 was 3.4 Mbps.

The Republic of Korea (RoK) stood at the first place in the region, followed by Japan and Hong Kong (China).

The RoK also took the top spot in the global ranking of Internet connectivity speed. Meanwhile, Viet Nam was ranked 97th globally, after China but ahead of the three other Asian nations, namely Indonesia, the Philippines, and India.

According to Akamai Technologies, broadband adoption must get the connection speed of 4 Mbps or more.

By the third quarter of 2015, 31 per cent of Việt Nam’s connections met the standard. Meanwhile, the rate in China was 33 per cent, and 10 and 14 per cent in the Philippines and India, respectively.

At "high broadband" speeds, or those that are more than 10 Mbps, the rate in Viet Nam was only 0.6 per cent, ranked 71st globally. — VNS
