Chess masters compete at Hà Nội Open

HÀ NỘI — Trần Ngọc Lan took the lead after three rounds of the third Hà Nội Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament this morning (June 3) in the capital city.

Lan of Hà Nội Club won all three games and has three points, putting her in top position.

The No 2 seed of the tournament will next play Trần Đặng Quang Minh who represents Future Grandmaster Chess Club. Minh is currently ranked fourth.

Phạm Xuân Đạt of Hà Nội Club and Lưu Đức Hải of Hồ Gươm Chess Club are second and third, respectively.

The tournament is Hà Nội's only international event in which masters can get their Elo rating to improve their world ranking.

More than 100 players including local and international ones have taken part in the event.

They will compete in nine games of standard chess. The final round is scheduled on June 6. — VNS
