HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Huy Hoàng of Quảng Bình Province won two gold medals on the fourth day of swimming at the National Sports Games, held late Tuesday in the capital.   

Hoàng won the men’s 200m butterfly in a total time of 1:59.59, beating Hoàng Quý Phước from Đà Nẵng.  

The achievement helped him break the national record and Games record of 1:59.96, held by Phước since 2014.

In the men’s 800m freestyle the same day, the 18-years-old won another gold in 8:06.50.

This was Hoàng’s fourth gold at the games, helping Quảng Bình’s swimming team reach third in the swimming medal table, following Hồ Chí Minh City and the Military. 

Meanwhile, Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên from the Military team won gold in women’s 800m freestyle in the total time of 8:55.36.

Other swimmers that bagged gold included Lê Nguyễn Paul from Southern An Giang Province, breaking the record of men’s 50m backstroke in a time of 25.54, while Lê Thị Mỹ Thảo from Bình Phước Province won the women’s 200m butterfly in a time of 2:10.92. — VNS
