HÀ NỘI — Hanoi Buffaloes beat defending champions Thang Long Warriors 67-63 in the playoffs of the Việt Nam Basketball Association (VBA) League on August 23.

The game was held at the Hà Nội National University of Education’s gymnasium.

The two teams played very carefully in the first quarter and they matched each other point for point to draw 13-13 in eight minutes. However, Justin Young then helped the hosts the Warriors take the lead of 15-13.

In the next phase, the two sides continued playing defence. In the last minutes, with three-point shots, Vincent Nguyễn helped the Buffaloes take the lead 33-32.

The Warriors fought back strongly in the third period. However, they couldn’t prevent defend against the attacks of the Buffaloes. Lê Ngọc Tú played an important role in raising the score to 55-51 for the Buffaloes, as he scored up to eight points.

In the last quarter, coach Predrag Lukic of the Warriors changed his tactics to break the defence line of the Buffaloes, but they didn’t succeed and accepted the loss of 63-67.

With 16 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, Mike Bell won the MVP award of the game. — VNS
