Việt Nam win two bronze medals at ASIAD

Việt Nam won two bronze medals at the Asian Games (ASIAD) 2018 in Indonesia yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam won two bronze medals at the Asian Games (ASIAD) 2018 in Indonesia on Sunday.

Việt Nam claimed a bronze medal in the men’s team taekwando poomsae event.

In the semi-final, Vietnamese athletes Trần Tiến Khoa, Lê Thanh Trung, Nguyễn Thiên Phụng scored equal points with their rivals from South Korea. However, in the next demonstration, the Korean athletes were evaluated to have performed at a more difficult level.

The Philippines also won bronze medal in this division after losing to China in the semi-finals. South Korea eventually claimed gold medal.

In the women’s team category, world champion Châu Tuyết Vân and her teammates Nguyễn Thị Lệ Kim and Ngô Thị Thuỳ Dung failed to make the semi-final after being defeated by their South Korean rivals, but Thailand claimed a shock victory to take the title.

In the women’s individual category, Vân lost to Rosmaniar Defia of the Indonesia in the quarter-final.

In other news, Vietnamese shooters took another bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed event.

Lê Thị Linh Chi and Trần Quốc Cường scored a total of 407.5 points, behind their competitors from China (473.2 points) and South Korea (467.6 points).Nguyễn Duy Hoàng and Awaki Ai.

Việt Nam has sent 352 athletes to ASIAD with a a target of winning at least three gold medals, including one in an Olympic sports category. 

At the previous Games, Việt Nam pocketed one gold, 10 silver, and 25 bronze medals, ranking 21st in the overall medal tally. — VNS
