HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên won a gold medal at the Pro Swim Series Mesa tournament in Arizona, United States, on Thursday.
The Vietnamese won in the women’s 400m individual medley (IM) with a time of 4:44.68.
Connie Dean of England came second clocking 4:46.63, while Ilektra Lebl from Greece was third with 4:49.68.
Viên will further compete in the 200m IM, 100m backstroke and 200m butterfly events.
Viên is Việt Nam’s hope of a medal in the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia. She hopes to win a gold and is sharpening her skills by practising in the United States.
In the last Asian Games, Viện brought home two bronze medals in 200m backstroke and 400m IM.
Pro Swim Series is an American swimming competition. The winner in each category will receive five points for their world ranking and a bonus of US$1,000. — VNS
