HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s shooting team will have a South Korean flavour this year, after three new sponsors were revealed.

In Hà Nội yesterday, the Việt Nam Shooting Federation’s (VSF) general secretary, Nguyễn Thị Nhung announced Glostar Group, Optrontec Vina Company and Sun Medical Centre will back the team – all companies from South Korea.

Glostar Group and Optrontec Vina Company will finance the shooting squad to the tune of US$200,000 and Sun Medical Centre will provide medical assistance and treat injuries.

General director of the National Sports Administration, Vương Bích Thắng said he hoped with this support, Việt Nam shooting would gain high results in the future.

He added they would also support training and selecting more young talents, hold more tournaments and support outstanding players.

Vietnamese shooters will compete in 14 out of 20 categories in the upcoming Asian Games (ASIAD) to be held in Indonesia from August 18.

Hoàng Xuân Vinh, who won a gold and a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, will carry the country’s hopes at the tournament in the 10m air pistol category, which is his forte.

To prepare for the ASIAD, Vinh and his teammates will have an intensive training session in South Korea next week and will compete in the World Shooting Cup in South Korea later this month. — VNS
