HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s top tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam easily entered the second round of the India F4 Futures tennis tournament on Tuesday.
The Tây Ninh-born player beat A. Kunal of the hosts 6-2, 7-6 after one hour and 23 minutes in the first round.
Nam, who is the No 2 seed, will next meet another Indian player, A. Shanmugam.
Meanwhile, another Vietnamese player, Trịnh Linh Giang was eliminated from the qualifying round.
One day before the tournament, Nam’s ranking was raised in both men’s singles and doubles categories of the International Badminton Federation.
Nam moved ahead 10 places from 475 to his current world rank of 465 in the men’s singles with 76 points. This was possible after he qualified for the quarter-final of the India F2 Futures tennis tournament.
In September 2017, Nam had a career-high ATP singles ranking of 462.
In the men’s doubles category, he moved ahead 74 places to rank World No 652 with 69 points.
He achieved a career-high ATP doubles ranking of 415 in July 2017.
He had won in the men’s doubles category of the 2015 Wimbledon Championships along with his Indian partner Sumit Nagal. — VNS
