HÀ NỘI — The annual HCM City Television Cycling will set up two new records in its 30th edition which will begin on March 29.

The first one will be the total bonuses of VNĐ2.2 billion (US$99,000) in which the yellow jersey holder walks away with VNĐ300 million, the biggest ever in the national cycling history. The winning team will receive VNĐ100 million.

The second one is the number of 30 stages which covers 3,267km. It is believed to be the biggest number of stages in not only Việt Nam but also in the world.

Currently, the world’s most prestigious Tour de France covers 21 stages.

The reason for the record is that is this year is the 30th anniversary of the tournament.

According to organisers, the event will start in Lạng Sơn Province with a time trial stage.

Cyclists will then tour along the country through Hà Nội, Huế, Đà Nẵng, Khánh Hòa, Lâm Đồng and cross the finish line in HCM City on April 30.

Currently, among the 13 best national crews are Bike Life Đồng Nai, VUS-HCM City, Ynghua Đồng Nai and Hạt Ngọc Trời An Giang. Many of them have signed contracts with foreign cyclists to vie for the title.

During the event, organisers and sponsors will conduct charity activities in destinations that they get through.
