HÀ NỘI — The Ciputra Hà Nội - Yonex Sunrise Việt Nam International Challenge badminton tournament will begin at Tây Hồ District’s Gymnasium today.
According to Bùi Kim Hà, general secretary of Hà Nội Badminton Federation, the event will feature 292 badminton players from 18 countries and territories including Japan, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Thailand.
Việt Nam’s players in the world’s top 100 such as Nguyễn Tiến Minh, Phạm Cao Cường, Vũ Thị Trang, Nguyễn Thùy Linh, Đỗ Tuấn Đức and Phạm Như Thảo will compete in the event, which has a total US$25,000 of prize money on offer.
The male and female winner will walk away with $1,875 each, while the winners of men’s, women’s doubles and mixed doubles will receive $1,975.
The tournament, which will last until March 25, is organised by the Hà Nội Department of Culture and Sports, and the Hà Nội Badminton Federation. — VNS
