HÀ NỘI — Saigon Heat came from behind to beat table leader Chong Son Kung Fu of China 96-93 in their ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) match on Saturday in HCM City.
It was the third win in a row this month for the Vietnamese first professional club, after they defeated reigning champions Hong Kong Eastern and Chinese Taipei’s Formosa Dreamers.
Chong Son Kung Fu displayed their power during the first minutes and quickly took the lead in the first quarter, which ended 26-24 for the visitors.
The second quarter saw the same situation, as the hosts had not recovered, while Chong Son Kung Fu players raised their score to 50-44 by the end.
The Heat tried hard in the third quarter, with Michael Williams scoring many points with this three-point throws. However, they could only narrow the result to 73-68.
The last quarter was quite different, as Maxie Esho and Williams did their jobs. Their excellent throwing lifted the Heat up, for the first time, at 78-75.
It seemed to be a strong push for the hosts, who set their domination and forced Chong Son Kung Fu to accept their first loss of the season, with the close score of 93-96.
The Heat will next face Westports Malaysia Dragons in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. — VNS
