HÀ NỘI — Weightlifter Hoàng Tấn Tài brought home a bronze medal, the last medal for the Việt Nam delegation, from the final competition day of the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia today.

Tài lifted 145kg in snatch and 177kg in clean and jerk in the men’s 85kg category. With a total lift of 322kg, Tài finished third. Thailand’s Pornchai Lobsi was the winner with 337kg, while Malaysian Mohamad Fazrul Azrie was the runner-up with 323kg.

At this event, five players from Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Việt Nam and host nation Malaysia competed in the final to decide the winners.

Vietnamese weightlifters competed in five men’s categories, winning two golds, one silver and two bronzes.

Tài’s result also closed an eventful Games for the Việt Nam delegation with a total of 58 gold, 50 silver and 56 bronze medals to rank third in the medal tally. — VNS
