Players train intensively for regional U18 event

Coach Hoàng Anh Tuấn and his players have started training for their AFF U18 Championship in Hà Nội discrediting a rumour that Tuấn’s coach days were over after he led the country’s U20 team to its first world cup appearance in May.

HÀ NỘI — Coach Hoàng Anh Tuấn and his players have started training for their AFF U18 Championship in Hà Nội discrediting a rumour that Tuấn’s coach days were over after he led the country’s U20 team to its first world cup appearance in May. 

Twenty-six players - four goalkeepers, six defenders, nine midfielder and seven strikers - who were selected from the national U17 and U19 tournaments, gathered in Hà Nội on Saturday. 

They will have about one month to sharpen their skills under Tuấn and his two assistants for the regional tournament in Myanmar on September 4-18.

Việt Nam are in Group B with Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines and the hosts.

Group A includes Thailand, East Timor, Malaysia, Singapore, Campuchia and Laos.

Việt Nam will play their first match against Brunei on September 7. — VNS
