HÀ NỘI — Trương Thị Lệ Trinh has been invited to officiate at the upcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup being held in Jordan from September 30 to October 21.

The Vietnamese is one of 28 women assistant referees and 17 women referees from 33 different countries who will take charge of the matches.

The 32-year-old is the first female referee of Việt Nam to be granted the honour to officate at a world-level tournament organised by FIFA.

At present, her colleague Trương Quốc Dũng is refereeing at the Futsal World Cup in Colombia.

He is also the first Vietnamese male referee to oversee a game in the final round of a World Cup.

According to Nguyễn Văn Mùi, head of the Việt Nam Football Federation’s Referee Council, the presence of two officials in world cup events proves that FIFA has recognised the ability of Vietnamese referees. — VNS
