Việt Nam kick off Asian U16 qualifying

Việt Nam will try hard to win the qualification of the Asian Football Confederation U16 Women’s Championship 2017 which will kick off today in Hà Nội.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s Asian Football Confederation U16 Women’s Championship 2017 qualification campaign kicks off today in Hà Nội.

Việt Nam is in Pool D with Iraq, Palestine, Australia, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.

At the tournament press briefing yesterday assistant coach Nguyễn Thị Mai Lan said as the hosts Việt Nam were targeting victory.

“We are familiar with the pitch and the weather which are challenges for them [the other Pool D sides]. But we all know football is mystery and no one can predict results,” said Lan.

“Australia are the strongest team and landed in Việt Nam about a week ago to train. Uzbekistan are also a team to watch due to their physical advantages,” said Lan.

“In competition everyone wants to win and we do too. The Vietnamese team will work on tactics for each rival.”

Việt Nam will first play Uzbekistan this afternoon, Australia will face Palestine and Hong Kong will battle Iraq.

The qualifying matches run until September 3 at the Việt Nam Youth Football Training Centre.

There are 24 teams divided into four groups taking part

The winner from each group will qualify to for finals.

The top four teams from the last edition, North Korea, Japan, China and Thailand, have directly qualified for the finals. — VNS
