HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam yesterday came from behind to beat Singapore to win the bronze medal at the Nations Cup in the U21 competition in Malaysia.
The teams drew 2-2 during the official time, resulting in a penalty shootout in which Việt Nam won 5-4.
Adam Swandi opened the scoring for Singapore near the end of the first half with a straight header.
They extended the gap with Hazim Faiz’s successful penalty, at six minutes after the interval.
But the Vietnamese needed five minutes more to narrow the score, also from a penalty, when midfielder Huỳnh Tấn Sinh sent a ball into goalkeeper Syirhan’s right corner.
Striker Hà Đức Chinh also had an equal for Việt Nam in the additional time, as his powerful shot again found Syirhan’s net.
In the penalties, only Chinh from Việt Nam missed his chance, while Ammirul Emmran and Saberin of Singapore failed to score against goalie Đỗ Sỹ Huy.
