HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Tiến Minh reached the third round of the Hà Nội Ciputra-Yonex Sunrise yesterday.

Minh, who earned a ticket to compete in the Rio Olympics this August, bested Jiann Shiarng Chiang of Malaysia 21-8, 21-19 after 30 minutes in the second round of men’s singles.

Earlier, Minh easily beat Indian A Joshi 21-18, 21-8 in the first round.

Minh’s girl friend, Vũ Thị Trang, crushed Indian Rituparna Das 21-14, 21-14 in the first round of women’s singles.

Đỗ Đức Tuấn and Phạm Như Thảo lost to Chinese Taipei’s Liang Jui Wei and Ching Hui Chang 0-2 in mixed doubles.

The tournament ends on June 5. — VNS
