Tâm wins second stage of HCM City Television Cycling Cup

Veteran cyclist Nguyễn Thành Tâm won the second stage of the nation's most prestigious cycling tournament, the HCM City Television Cup on April 11.

Veteran cyclist Nguyễn Thành Tâm won the second stage of the nation’s most prestigious cycling tournament, the HCM City Television Cup yesterday.

Tâm of Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời-An Giang clocked a top speed of 42.207kmh during the 153km race from Hà Nội to Thanh Hóa City in the central province of Thanh Hóa, which he completed in 3:37.30.

Lê Nguyệt Minh of Mathnasium HCM City and Nguyễn Trường Tài were second and third in this stage.

Tâm retained the yellow jersey with the best overall time of 4:34.04, followed by Lê Văn Duẩn of VUS-HCM City and Trịnh Đức Tâm of An Giang.

Tâm continued to wear the green jersey as best sprinter with 37 points.

Though Tâm triumphed at this stage, he didn’t take his team to the lead. VUS-HCM City rose to lead the race after two stages with a combined time of 13:43.24. Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời-An Giang and Domesco Pharmacy Đồng Tháp were the runners-up.

Today, cyclists continue their 137km third race from Thanh Hóa to Vinh City.

The event, which is held annually to celebrate the anniversary of the Reunification Day on April 30, covers an overall distance of over 2,100km in 19 stages. – VNS
