ĐÀ NẴNG — Joshua Edwin Shepherd has been appointed as director of the Young Football Training Centre at the national football premiership V.League 1 team, SHB Đà Nẵng.

It's hoped the move will help SHB Đà Nẵng develop their standards to a higher, international level.

The 35-year-old from the UK has already started working with the players and is the youngest director of a football centre in Việt Nam.

Shepherd has more than 10 years experience working with teams in Spain, the UK and Thailand.

He takes over from former Phan Thanh Hùng, who has represented both the club and national team, who has retired from director of the centre.

The Đà Nẵng-based premier football team had a poor finish in the National Football Championship in 2025-26, ranking at 12 out of 14 teams.

In April, SHB Đà Nẵng also signed Japanese expert Yusuke Adachi as a technical director for the first team.

SHB Đà Nẵng won the championship in 1992, 2009 and 2012, as well as two National Cup titles in 1993 and 2009.

They were relegated in 2022 before bouncing straight back into the top flight a year later.

In past years, the team hosted visits by Barcelona football school in Asia and Oceania (FCBEscola) and Manchester City after SHB bank signed a deal with Manchester City FC.

In 2024, SHB Đà Nẵng signed an agreement with VietGoal, the largest football training centre for children in Việt Nam, over the development of young future footballers. — VNS
