HÀ NỘI — The 48th Hànộimới Newspaper Run for Peace will take place on September 30 next to Hoàn Kiếm Lake in Hà Nội.
The top running event is one of the oldest tournaments in the country and jointly organised by the newspaper and the municipal Culture and Sports Department in celebration of the 69th anniversary of the capital city, which falls on October 10, and 24th year that Hà Nội has been recognised as the City of Peace by the UNESCO.
In the last few months, many competitions were organised in districts, towns, schools and universities to select their best runners for to the final event.
This year's run will feature 1,500 athletes, workers, soldiers and students along with 250 foreigners who are living and working in the city.
They will together sign on the Flag of Peace before running for the prizes of different categories.

In the elite classes, it is 5,250m for the women and 8,750m, five laps, for men.
On September 30, last year's winner Trần Văn Đảng will defend his title against in-form SEA Games duathlon champion Phạm Tiến Sản. Meanwhile Nguyễn Thị Oanh cannot run to keep her top place because she is busy with the national team at the ongoing Asian Games in China.
A total of VNĐ90 million will be delivered to the high-ranking athletes along with gifts from sponsors such as Acecook Việt Nam, Vinamilk, HABECO, Dowin Hưng Phát Company and Tân Á Đại Thành Group.
This year, organisers also receive IT assistance for the first time from sponsors. Under XmaX Media's support, athletes can find their images and tracklog through advanced software, which is for the first time applied at the Hànộimới Newspaper Run. VNS
