HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese athlete Nguyễn Ngọc Hiệp grabbed a gold at the 2022 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Rades Stadium, on June 28 in Tunis, Tunisia.

Hiệp sprinted first to the finish line of the men's T11 400m category in 55.93sec.

He left behind Jailson Valdir Andrade Correia of Cape Verde who finished on 1:03.86 and Abdulaziz Alshammari of Kuwait on 1:04.73.

In later activities, Trần Văn Nguyên came second in the men's F40/41 shot put.

His performance brought him 756 points, some 100 points less than winner Redouane Thabit of Morocco. Muhammad Diroy Noordin from Singapore placed third with 747 points.

Nguyễn Phạm Khánh Minh added a bronze to the Vietnamese team in the men's T12 400m class.

He ran 52.23sec. 

Rouay Jebabli of the hosts took gold with a time of 49.12 while his teammate Achraf Lahouel was second on 51.03.

To date, Việt Nam have bagged one gold, three silvers and three bronzes.

They are expected to earn more medals as they will compete in the women's F57 discus throw, men's T11 long jump and men's F40 javelin throw. — VNS
