PHÚ THỌ— Four people died on Tuesday morning when a structure collapsed at a construction site in the northern province of Phú Thọ.
The accident occurred at about 9am at Phú Thọ Vocational Centre in Việt Trì City’s Gia Cẩm Ward.
A group of workers were on a construction site when soil from an overhead structure collapsed, burying them alive.
Rescue teams were sent to the site immediately to search for the victims.
By 11am, rescuers found the bodies of three people who had died while another worker was rushed to Phú Thọ General Hospital for emergency treatment. However, he later died of his injuries.
The victims were identified as Nguyễn Kim Đồng, 44, a resident of Thanh Ba District’s Đại An Commune; Nguyễn Thị Minh, 40, from Phù Ninh’s Bình Phú Commune; Nguyễn Văn Hải, 41 and Nguyễn Thị Loan, 53 from Việt Trì City’s Phượng Lâu Commune.
Bùi Văn Quang, chairman of Phú Thọ Province’s People’s Commitee said local authorities had handed over the bodies of the workers and offered condolences to their families.
He also directed Việt Tri City’s authority to evacuate four households next to the site.
An investigation into the accident is underway. — VNS
