THANH HÓA — Two people have died and 12 others suffered smoke inhalation and burns in a fire that happened on Thursday, according to reports from the Thanh Hóa Province General Hospital.
The fire occurred at 6pm at a 14-storey building at 30 Lê Lợi Road in Thanh Hóa City.
One person was killed in the blaze and another pronounced dead at the hospital Friday morning.
The hospital said that two are in critical condition and in need of assisted ventilation, while the remaining were mildly or lightly hurt.
Nearly 10 fire engines and dozens of firemen were dispatched to the scene. The fire was extinguished after about two hours.
The high building was owned and used by the State-run PetroVietnam Construction Joint-stock Corporation – Thanh Hoá Branch. Besides the corporation, many other companies are hiring offices in the building.
When the fire occurred, many were in the offices to complete their work before the Tết (Lunar New Year) festival, which falls next week. — VNS
