AN GIANG — A woman has been detained by border patrol authorities at the Việt Nam/Cambodia crossing carrying US$50,000 in cash.

Major Huỳnh Thanh Tâm, head of the border post, said on Saturday morning, guards spotted a woman acting suspiciously as she drove a motorbike from a casino in Kampong Ksasang Commune, Prey Chul Sar District in Takeo Province, Cambodia to Việt Nam.

She was stopped and had her luggage checked where the cash was found.

Phan Thị Hoài Phương, 33, from Châu Đốc City, told border guards she had borrowed the money with interest from a man named Mít, to help with her trading business.

The case is still under investigation. — VNS
