QUẢNG NINH — Bắc Sơn border guard station under the Quảng Ninh Province Border Guard said on Monday it had arrested 12 people (including seven Vietnamese citizens and five Chinese people) who were crossing the Vietnam-China border illegally.

Bắc Sơn station fined the detained migrants a total of VNĐ48 million (US$1,900) and was finalising their punishments.

At 4pm on Sunday, February 17, local border guards arrested four Chinese nationals trying to enter Việt Nam in the river area of Lục Phủ Village, Bắc Sơn Commune, Móng Cái City.

They were Wu Ze Jin, 54; Wu Fu Kun, 24; Wu Min Hui, 26 and Yang Wu Bin, 26, all residents of Fujian Province, China.

They claimed at the police station that they had entered Việt Nam to visit family members living in the city of Móng Cái.

On February 14, the border guard also arrested a Chinese man and a Vietnamese woman who were crossing Việt Nam’s Móng Cái border. The couple also said they had entered the country to visit family members.

One day earlier, a border guard patrol team discovered six Vietnamese people preparing to illegally cross the Móng Cái border. They said they planned to work for a wood processing factory in China.

All six people resided in the Tân Uyên area in the northern mountainous province of Lai Châu and failed to present any identification papers. — VNS
