HẢI PHÒNG — All 19 children under supervision at the Hải Phòng Paediatrics Hospital after receiving the Combe Five vaccine were discharged from hospital in a stable condition, said Phạm Văn Dương, deputy director of the hospital.
From January 25 to 28, a total of 31 children in Hải Phòng City’s Kiến Thụy District suffered an adverse reaction after receiving the Combe Five vaccine. Nineteen in the most serious condition were moved to the Hải Phòng Paediatrics Hospital. They suffered convulsions and had turned pale.
Combe Five is five-in-one vaccine, which prevents diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B and pneumonia.
Director of the Hải Phòng Department of Health Phạm Thu Xanh said that Hải Phòng was one of seven provinces and cities using the vaccine in a pilot programme.
It is a new kind of vaccine thus the department had given close guidance and training to concerned organisations and set up a hotline for any problems. However, 31 children in Kiến Thụy District still had a bad reaction after getting the jab. Fortunately, they have all been discharged.
Chairman of the Hải Phòng People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Tùng asked the health sector to strictly supervise vaccinations and report all results to the committee.
Other provinces such as Nam Định, Thái Bình, Quảng Ngãi, and Kon Tum saw children hospitalised after being given the vaccination. All kids have been reported as safe. — VNS
