AN GIANG — Police in Long Xuyên City in the southern province of An Giang on Monday launched a criminal investigation against a babysitter who was allegedly involved in torturing three toddlers at Sắc Màu Tuổi Thơ nursery school.
The suspect, Trần Thị Bảo Trân, 21, of the province’s Kiên Lương District, was detained for two months as the investigation proceeds.
On August 24, a video clip went viral on the internet showing Trân using her hands and a comb to beat two girls and a boy each about three years old. The video shows the toddlers panicking and crying. After that, owner of the nursery school Nguyễn Thị Huyền Trang closed the school and reported the case to police.
The babysitter Trân admitted to police that she beat the toddlers because they refused to eat. The incident was said to happen in March 2018.
After the clip went viral, local authorities inspected the Sắc Màu Tuổi Thơ nursery school in Bình Khánh Ward. It was licensed to start operation in 2016 and was offering services to 28 children.
On Monday, the ward People’s Committee decided to dissolve the school. — VNS
