ĐÀ LẠT, Lâm Đồng — A restaurant in the tourist city of Đà Lạt, which assaulted two of its customers, has been suspended from operation, the city’s Market Management Board said on Thursday.

Management board head Nguyễn Quốc Hùng said it was working with relevant authorities to investigate and handle the case.

On Tuesday night, a group of tourists, including two young women---a 20-year-old from Đồng Nai Province and a 28-year-old Vietnamese American--- was hanging out at the Đà Lạt night market. They decided to have dinner at the restaurant in the market and ordered four plates of chicken rice and two plates of rib rice.

The rice was served cold, and the American tourist got into a verbal fight with the restaurant owner over the undercooked chicken.

As the group paid the bill and was ready to leave, the Vietnamese woman took out her phone to click a photograph of the restaurant. On seeing this, the restaurant owner allegedly screamed to the waiters, “She is taking a photo to post on Facebook. Stop her!”

A group of six, three men and three women, immediately surrounded the tourists and hit them. The Vietnamese woman suffered scratches and open wounds on her face, while the American woman fainted on the spot. She was rushed to the hospital.

The police are investigating the case. — VNS
