HÀ NỘI — Six inspection teams have been founded to check food safety and hygiene in 12 provinces and cities, said the Ministry of Health.

The 12 provinces and cities include Huế, Đà Nẵng, Hà Nội, Quảng Ninh and Sơn La, as well as Hòa Bình, HCM City, Bình Dương and Cà Mau, in addition to Kiên Giang, Lạng Sơn and Cao Bằng.

The teams, along with the participation of leaders of departments concerned, will check food trading, producing and importing of enterprises.

They will also check main markets, supermarkets and plazas.

The inspection will focus on food of which a large volume will be consumed during the upcoming Tết (Lunar New Year) festival, which will take place in the middle of the next month. The inspection will last from now until April 2 this year.

Nguyễn Thanh Phong, director of the Việt Nam Food Administration, said that the inspectors would pay great attention to the food’s origin, food additives and preservation substances.

Food samples would be tested and the results would be announced widely, he said. — VNS
