More bodies found after confectionery fire

THANH HOÁ — The Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department in this central province have found the last victim of the fire at Tràng An Việt Nam Confectionery Joint Stock Company.

DNA assessments have been conducted to identify the victims.

To search for the victims stranded by the fire, more than 200 police from the provincial Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department, local police in Bỉm Sơn Town and soldiers from the Ministry of National Defence were mobilised to search the debris.

The results of the initial investigation showed that the cause of the fire was an exploded cooking kiln, and the flames had spread to the material storage area. The loss of property caused by the fire amounts to more than VNĐ80 billion (US$2.5 million).

The fire broke out at Tràng An Việt Nam Confectionery Joint Stock Company in Bắc Sơn Industrial Zone on December 24, leaving three people trapped.

The three victims were Dương Thị Ngọc Tâm, 23, and Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Tuyết, both from Bỉm Sơn Town, as well as Nguyễn Văn Thành of Hoằng Hoá District.

Three other people were injured. Two of them are under treatment at the hospital.

Nearly 1,500sq.m of work space and storage areas were destroyed. — VNS
