QUẢNG NINH — A tour boat sank in Hạ Long Bay on Sunday. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The collision occurred between a Hồng Long tour boat numbered QN – 3109 and a rock-carrying barge numbered HP – 3888, owned by Hùng Vương Shipping Joint Stock Company, near Ti Tốp Island.

At the time the accident occurred, 31 Chinese tourists, four crew members and one tour guide were on board the boat. Upon receiving the SOS signal, Nguyễn Đức Long, head of Quảng Ninh Province People’s Committee, mobilised fuctional forces to peform the rescue, saving the lives of all the passengers and crew members.

By 4pm the same day, functional forces had successfully salvaged the Hồng Long QN – 3109 tour boat.

Earlier, the tour boat departed from Tuần Châu Port at 7.30am, carrying tourists to Hạ Long Bay. On the way back, it collided with the barge transporting 1,700 tonnes of rocks from Hải Phòng City to Cẩm Phả City’s Hòn Nét Island.

The provincial police are further investigating the case. — VNS
