HÀ NỘI – Hà Nội People’s Committee has called for a halt to any activities related to fish breeding and aquaculture exploitation in West Lake in order to protect the water environment and tourism development.

The decision was announced by Chu Phú Mỹ, Director of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department at a working session with Tây Hồ District on Tuesday, Dân Trí online newspaper reported.

Under the direction, the city’s department required that any enterprises breeding fish in the lake stop operations and relevant units would monitor waste water discharge into the lake.

Mỹ said that the department was implementing a project to assess fishery resources in the lake to propose exploitation solutions while ensuring ecological balance.

Related to the management of West Lake, Lê Văn Dục, Director of the city’s Construction Department, said the committee’s chairman also assigned related departments and sectors to choose an optimal plan for adding more water to the lake during the dry season.

On wastewater collection, he said that the city currently has a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 14,500cu.m a day.

The projects to collect and deal with the remaining wastewater were expected to be completed by the end of this year in order to treat wastewater around the lake area, Dục said. — VNS
