Hồ Minh Tấn, deputy director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, assessed that the international flight network is gradually recovering and expanding.

Vietnamese and foreign airlines have fully restored flights to traditional markets and expanded operations to new markets in Central Asia, such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Mongolia.

Notably, despite certain constraints, flights to China and Russia have successfully resumed in the year 2023.

In addition, Vietnamese airlines have intensified operations on routes to the Indian market, transporting 920,000 passengers in 2023, nearly 15 times higher than in 2019 and the Australian market with 913,000 passengers in 2023, a 40 per cent increase compared to 2019.

Currently, some 63 foreign airlines and five Vietnamese carriers are exploiting the international market with 169 regular and charter routes linking 28 countries and territories in North America, Europe, China, East Asia, and Africa to popular Vietnamese destinations such as Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng, Hồ Chí Minh City, Cam Ranh, Phú Quốc and Đà Lạt.

The domestic flight network has been maintained and developed with 66 domestic routes connecting Hà Nội, HCM City and Đà Nẵng to 19 other local airports with more than 600 flights per day.

Apart from existing routes, in 2023, Vietnamese airlines also launched new routes such as Cần Thơ-Vân Đồn, Hà Nội-Cà Mau, and HCM City-Điện Biên. — VNS
