HÀ NỘI — All 1,700m of fences around Thống Nhất Park in Hà Nội will be removed to make the park a freely accessible area for entertainment activities.

The city’s authorities have approved the park’s renovation project worth over VNĐ408 billion from now until 2026.

More surveillance cameras will be installed at the park to strengthen security as part of the project.

The city’s authorities will also plan to build more relaxing areas around the park where visitors can take a rest.

The total renovated area is about 48 hectares, of which the water surface area is 16.5 hectares.

Earlier, since late 2022, 400m of fences at the park on Trần Nhân Tông Street have been removed as part of the trial basis of fencing removal.

After the fences were removed, visitors no longer had to pay entrance fees.

Thống Nhất is the largest park in Hà Nội with an area of more than 50 hectares, located on four streets of Trần Nhân Tông, Lê Duẩn, Đại Cồ Việt and Nguyễn Đình Chiểu.

Its fence system was built and renovated over many periods, with a total length of 2,160m through seven entrance gate locations.

The municipal People's Council also gave the greenlight to renovate two other big parks - Bách Thảo and Thủ Lệ.

Fences will be kept at Bách Thảo Park as it is located at the city’s political centre.

Thủ Lệ Park, which is famous for having the biggest zoo in the city, will keep the fences at the entrance area with fees still collected. Other areas will have the fences removed to create an open space.

From now until 2025, Hà Nội will upgrade and renovate 45 parks and flower gardens out of a total of 63. — VNS
