HCM CITY — NGO Operation Smile Vietnam and the National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology- HCM City are providing free surgeries for 72 children with maxillofacial deformities from August 28 to 31.

They are funded by philanthropists using the MoMo online payment platform, Việt Nam’s leading super app.

Ninety one children were screened at the National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology -HCM City on August 28 for malformation and their ability to respond to surgery, and doctors decided to perform surgeries on 72 of them.

Children with more complicated medical conditions will have individual examination and surgery after the programme.

Since the launch of the “Heo Đất MoMo” charitable feature on its app in 2019, MoMo has become a partner of Operation Smile Vietnam.

Through the platform, donors can support the surgeries organised by Operation Smile Vietnam.

As of August this year the donations on the platform have helped provide surgeries to 1,233 children who were born with cleft lip or palate.

Nguyễn Việt Phương, chief representative of Operation Smile, said the organisation is honoured to accompany MoMo and make valuable contributions to the community.

It hopes to work with MoMo on projects with third parties to bring smiles back to more people and participate in projects and training courses to help the sustainable and long-term development of the healthcare system, he added.

Nguyễn Hoành Tiến, senior vice president in charge of marketing and distribution services at MoMo, said even the smallest donation could make a difference to the lives of many children.
