HCM CITY — The Việt Nam Science and Technology Association and the Ministry of Science and Technology has launched the Institute for Combating Commercial Fraud and Counterfeit Goods.

Bùi Văn Quyền, director of the institute, said that the establishment of the institute would contribute to the sustainable development of the economy and society, improving the quality of life and the confidence of all individuals and organizations involved.

"We are committed to bringing the highest values and benefits to society and the community," Quyền emphasised.

In addition, the institute will be an effective bridge between individuals, economic organizations, businesses and the authorities in the fight against commercial fraud and counterfeit goods, protecting brands for businesses and the interests of consumers.

According to the institute's statistics, cases of trading in contraband and goods with unknown origin detected in HCM City in the first three months of 2023 increased by more than 1.5 times.

In April, Market Management Team No. 3 under the city's Market Management Department coordinated with the city police to detect and temporarily seize 6,877 imported cigars of all kinds; six bottles of wine branded Johnnie Walker Blue Label from Scotland; and 74,400 units of imported children's toys of all kinds.

According to the leader of the HCM City Market Management Department, the unit has directed the Market Management Teams to strengthen area management, and clearly identify key areas and key products, so that inspection and control can be carried out effectively. — VNS
