SÓC TRĂNG — The Mekong Delta province of Sóc Trăng plans to build at least 6,400 affordable housing units for low-income people and laborers by 2030.

The project aims to develop affordable social and worker housing in urban areas near industrial parks and export processing zones.

The province encourages the development of affordable housing to provide conditions for everyone to have a place to live under market mechanisms.

Lâm Hoàng Nghiệp, Deputy Chairman of the province's People's Committee, said the beneficiaries of social housing policies are separated into groups; workers, labourers, and experts working at enterprises in industrial zones, clusters, export processing zones, high-tech zones and production enterprises in industrial zones, with separate mechanisms and policies to develop housing types for workers to rent.

In 2023, Sóc Trăng will focus on accelerating the implementation of investment procedures for social housing projects in An Nghiệp Industrial Park with a total of more than 2,200 houses to start construction this year, according to the Department of Construction. — VNS
