HÀ NỘI — Nearly 1.8 million mobile phone subscribers with unverified information will have their SIM card locked from today.

Nguyễn Phong Nha, deputy head of the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority, on Friday warned these users will not be allowed to make phone calls or send text messages.

From March 13 to March 31, more than 1.99 million mobile phone subscribers had their information verified following the plan of the Ministry of Information and Communications. There remains about 1.8 million unverified subscribers as of March 31, he said.

Unverified subscribers will have their SIM cards two-way locked from April 15 if they do not provide accurate personal information, Nhã said.

If the SIM card is two-way locked, users will not be able to make and receive phone calls and messages.

In order not to be locked, mobile users are advised to follow the verification request. Subscribers can text 'TTTB' to number 1414 without fees to know if the subscription is verified or not.

Việt Nam has about 126 million mobile subscribers. As of March 15, there were about 3.8 million subscribers whose information had not been verified. VNS
