MOSCOW — Fourteen Vietnamese citizens have managed to escape from Kherson, an area of Ukraine currently under intense fire.
They arrived safely in the Russian city of Krasnodar on March 13, thanks to assistance from the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia and the Vietnamese Association in the city.
The group, which includes three children, had been working as traders in the local market which was shut down as the fighting broke out.
Lưu Xuân Trường said he is delighted his family have safely escaped from the war area where they lived in fear and his children could not go to school. He thanked the Vietnamese community in Krasnodar for their whole-hearted support.
The group is staying in a hotel in Krasnodar. Their accommodation, food and travel costs were covered by the Vietnamese community in Krasnodar until they are brought to Việt Nam.
Speaking to Vietnam News Agency, Vũ Sơn Việt, First Secretary at the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, said the evacuation was difficult due to the tense conflict. He said that the Russian side gave positive support in ensuring safety for the group during their move.
Việt affirmed that the embassy will support the group to complete necessary procedures as soon as possible to allow them to return to Việt Nam. — VNS
