HÀ NỘI — The Hà Nội People’s Committee on Friday approved the proposal of the municipal Department of Education and Training, which temporarily pauses the plan to let students from grades 1 to 6 in 12 urban districts return to school.

Earlier, the capital city decided to allow in-person learning from February 21 after nine months of online instruction due to COVID-19 outbreaks.

However, the pandemic has worsened in the capital city with high number of new cases in the community every day. Moreover, it is forecast that a severe cold spell will hit Hà Nội soon. Besides, a high rate of parents did not agree to let their children return to school in the present situation, reasoned the city's education department.

For such reasons, the department proposed a halt to the Hà Nội People’s Committee and has received the greenlight. The pause will last until the committee makes a new decision and students will continue to learn online.

Hà Nội let students from grades 1 to 6 in 18 suburban districts return to school from February 10, 2022.

Students from grades 7 to 12 in the capital returned to school on February 8.

The central city of Đà Nẵng has announced plans to let kindergartens reopen on February 21 in areas with pandemic levels from 1-3, with the first week reserved for familiarisation activities and creating a friendly atmosphere for children and the following weeks for more knowledge-oriented curriculum. — VNS
