Record 17,017 COVID infections reported on Wednesday, Hà Nội tops 2,500 cases

The city of Hà Nội registered a record high of 2,505 new daily COVID-19 infections on Wednesday as a total of 17,017 transmissions were confirmed nationwide.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam registered a record 17,017 coronavirus infections on Wednesday, as the capital confirmed more than 2,500 daily cases for the first time.

Of the daily caseload, 20 were imported and the rest domestic. There were 12,299 community transmissions.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,817,721.

Hà Nội was again the locality with the most number of transmissions across the country, with 2,505.

Việt Nam reported an additional 230 COVID-related deaths, bringing the national death toll from the virus to 33,475.

A total of 22,662 patients were declared fully recovered from COVID-19, with the total number of recoveries increasing to 1,436,046.

Twenty-five cases of the Omicron variant in Việt Nam are being quarantined and monitored.

As of January 5, Việt Nam had administered over 155.1 million doses of vaccine, including more than 69.8 million people receiving two full jabs, and over 7.4 million inoculated with a booster shot. —VNS
