Hà Nội cases top 2,000 for the first time

This is the first time Hà Nội has recorded more than 2,000 new infections in a day.

HÀ NỘI – Daily COVID-19 cases in Hà Nội have reached 2,045, the highest number in the capital city since the start of the pandemic. 

Hà Nội has consistently had the highest number of new infections in the country for the past two weeks, though this is the first time cases have risen above 2,000 new infections in a day.

These figures are included in the 16,948 total new COVID-19 cases reported by the Ministry of Health on Sunday. 

A further 221 deaths were also announced across the country.

The national caseload since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,763,040. In the last seven days, the country has reported an average of 15,479 new infections daily.

Among the new cases, 34 were imported and the rest were domestic. A total of 11,948 infections were detected in the community.

The 221 fatalities were in HCM City (30), Đồng Nai (41), An Giang (17), Vĩnh Long (16), Đồng Tháp (15), Cần Thơ (15), Tiền Giang (11), Hậu Giang (9), Tây Ninh (8 ), Hà Nội (8), Sóc Trăng (7), Bình Dương (7), Kiên Giang (7), Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu (6), Khánh Hoà (5), Bạc Liêu (4), Bình Thuận (3), Cà Mau (3), Nam Định (2), Trà Vinh (2), Nghệ An (1), Đắk Lắk (1), Hà Giang (1), Gia Lai (1), and Long An (1).

The number of deaths recorded in Đồng Nai includes fatalities from the previous day. 

Việt Nam's COVID-19 death toll is now 32,831, or 1.9 per cent of the total infections.

According to the Ministry of Health, 6,746 patients nationwide are in serious condition, of which 815 are on invasive ventilation and 24 on life support (ECMO).

A further 14,420 patients were given the all-clear on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,372,696.

Over 152.8 million doses of vaccine have been administered in the country to date; more than 77.7 million people have received at least one dose. — VNS
