Aviation authority investigating plane collision incident at Nội Bài Airport

The Civil Aviation Administration of Việt Nam (CAAV) has established a team to investigate and verify the cause of the incident in which an A321 hit the wingtip of another plane that was parked in a nearby slot at Nội Bài International Airport in Hà Nội on Saturday evening.

HÀ NỘI — The Civil Aviation Administration of Việt Nam (CAAV) has established a team to investigate and verify the cause of the incident in which an A321 hit the wingtip of another plane that was parked in a nearby slot at Nội Bài International Airport in Hà Nội on Saturday evening.

On Monday, the team was reportedly working with the crew and aviation staff related to the incident.

Assessing the seriousness of this incident, the Ministry of Transport ranked the incident at level C – an incident that highly threatened aviation safety. Level B refers to a more serious incident and Level A refers to an aviation accident.

Leaders of the ministry requested the CAAV urgently investigate and strictly handle them according to regulations.

According to the CAAV, at 6:12 pm on November 27, 2021, VN-A544 of Vietjet Air out of Đà Lạt Airport, flight VJ404, landed at Nội Bài airport.

After exiting the runway and moving into the parking lot, the right wingtip (RH Sharklet) of the VN-A544 aircraft collided with the left wingtip (LH Sharklet) of the VN-A636 aircraft that was parked in a nearby slot. Part of the left wing tip of VN-A636 was damaged.

All 120 passengers and seven crew members on board are safe.

As soon as receiving information about the incident, the CAAV directed the Northern Airport Authority and relevant units to approach the aircraft and make a record of the incident.

The flight crew and signal staff have been temporarily suspended and their licences have been revoked. — VNS
