Providing interest-free loans and husbandry training to 140 farming households of Ben Tre, Binh Dinh, Hai Duong, and Hung Yen, “Tiep Suc Nha Nong” 2020 successfully completed the journey of empowering rural women to alleviate poverty sustainably.

From tremendous support

Initiated in 2010, “Tiep Suc Nha Nong” – the joint-programme of GREENFEED Vietnam - the leading FEED - FARM - FOOD integrated clean food chain - and Tuoi Tre Newspaper aims to improve livelihoods of farming households by providing interest-free loans, supporting feed expenses, husbandry training, awarding scholarships to beneficiaries’ children with good academic results, and rewarding outstanding farmers. Over the 10-year journey, the programme has been accompanying more than 2,000 farming households in 16 provinces and cities across the country.

Based on GREENFEED’s expertise in comprehensive farming solutions, the support from “Tiep Suc Nha Nong” have helped women exploit the potential for growth, enhanced their capacity to combat poverty and given them more motivation to pursue a better life.

After returning to her hometown due to the pandemic, Ms. Phan Thi Loan Thao (Tay Son district, Binh Dinh Province) and her husband had to start from scratch with a modest investment. The support from GREENFEED has enabled Ms. Loan Thao to invest in livestock husbandry and improve her family’s lives.

In 2020, “Tiep Suc Nha Nong” focused on women in Ben Tre, Binh Dinh, Hai Duong, and Hung Yen who desire to increase family income, support children in their studies and start a prosperous life for their family yet face many difficulties in accessing capital and husbandry skills. With over VND7 billion in relief funds in 2020, the programme provided practical support to 140 farming households throughout these four provinces.

Ms. Le Hong Hon (An Binh Tay commune, Ba Tri district, Ben Tre Province) is a single mother who works in animal husbandry to raise her son. Despite the challenges, she has persistently studied new farming methods and encouraged other women in the commune to eradicate poverty. Ms. Hon is one of 20 households receiving support from GREENFEED in Ben Tre.

Alleviation of poverty for a better life

In December 2020, “Tiep Suc Nha Nong” delivered support to 80 farmers living in Kim Dong, Yen My district, Hung Yen Province and Ninh Giang, Thanh Mien district, Hai Duong Province, which are the last two localities of 2020.

Receiving free loans from the programme, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lien (Yen My district, Hung Yen Province) said: “I’m a single mum. Every day I wake up at 3am to feed chickens and harvest vegetables then bring them to the market for sale. In the afternoon, I work at a construction site until 10pm. In spite of these difficulties, I always want my daughter to have a good life and complete her studies. With the loan from GREENFEED, I now have enough money to expand my husbandry and increase my income. I’m grateful that GREENFEED has given me the opportunity to better raise my kid.”

In addition to the initial fund, “Tiep Suc Nha Nong” also provides agricultural coaching for recipients during the two years of the funding. This enables rural women to farm more effectively and profitably as well as upgrade their quality of lives.

Raising two children alone, Mrs. Trinh Thi Mai (Ninh Giang district, Hai Duong Province) makes a great effort to take care of her children and support their studies. However, due to a lack of husbandry skills, she has faced challenges in making money or saving a considerable amount. Now with the funding and especially husbandry training from GREENFEED, Ms. Mai has gained more confidence and motivation to choose husbandry once again as her household economic solution.

Not only supporting women, “Tiep Suc Nha Nong” also gave scholarships to students who are children of the programme’s beneficiaries.

Doan Thi Nguyet Ha (Mrs. Mai’s daughter) said: “I appreciate so much my mother, who has to raise two children alone after my father’s death. With the scholarship from “Tiep Suc Nha Nong”, I promise to keep trying in my studies so that I can have a stable job in the future and assist my mother as well as reduce her hardship."

Mr. Vuong Quang Hung, Deputy Head of Commission for Mass Mobilisation, Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee, said: “The support from GREENFEED and “Tiep Suc Nha Nong” are truly meaningful and beneficial for the people of Hung Yen and Hai Duong. On behalf of the communities, we would like to thank GREENFEED for keeping and expanding the support over the years. From there, the lives of many households have been significantly improved. We hope “Tiep Suc Nha Nong” will be retained annually to keep delivering more help to people.”
