Sanofi and efforts in digital adaptation to CVD treatment

September 30, 2020 - 10:26

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is acknowledged as a very prominent health issue by health organisations around the world in general and Viet Nam in particular. If in time treatment is not applied immediately, those chronic diseases would progress and continually get worse. Besides, CVD is the leading cause of death as well as the origin of other diseases. Currently, 25 per cent of the Vietnamese population suffer cardiovascular disease, though most cases have not been detected and treated promptly.

For effective chronic disease management, the competence and experience of the doctor play a pivotal role. In addition, all researchers, private and foreign pharmaceutical manufacturers have been contributing significantly to improve the excellence of healthcare.

Sanofi Vietnam, for instance, is one of the organisations that has helped the health sector for many years in training and updating medical knowledge to physicians and pharmacists at many hospitals nationwide. Currently, as an adaptation to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sanofi and the Vietnam National Heart Association (VNHA) have transformed traditional treatment onto a digital platform.

The annual Scientific Conference “From ACC to VNHA 2020 - Updates on The Outstanding Treatment Trend in The World and Clinical Practice Perspective in Vietnam” in May 2020 was held as a webinar instead of a regular face-to-face meeting. Thanks to this adaptation, healthcare professionals across the country can conveniently access the online meeting from their personal computers and mobile devices. Such an effective and timely adaptation during the COVID-19 pandemic helped approach more than 1,500 physicians and pharmacists nationwide.

The conference was held as an online webinar at two main sites in Ha Noi and HCM City, broadcasted live to major hospitals in northern Viet Nam.

Besides these online scientific meetings, the healthcare workforce could participate in online Continuing Medical Education (eCME) through the Ecademy platform compatible with computers and mobile devices. A remarkable advantage of this learning form is that learners, no matter how remote or how busy they are, could still actively participate in their training courses at any time and anywhere.

The training topics include hypertension, acute coronary syndrome and venous thrombosis, presented online by leading cardiologists and endocrinologists from July 20, 2020, until the end of the third quarter. The eCME project is run by the Center of Health Care Human Resource Development, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in HCM City with the sponsorship of Sanofi Vietnam. Doctors and pharmacists who complete those courses will be certified by this organisation.

The first eCME course on Hypertension has been recorded and will be broadcast through the Ecademy application from July 20, 2020.

Besides, domestic and international medical information is delivered to healthcare professionals via Zalo and emails with a vivid and state-of-the-art presentation

This eCME is expected to help nationwide healthcare providers access the latest medical resources. With an effort to deliver healthy outcomes for CVND patients in Viet Nam, cutting-edge digital tools such as webinars, mobile applications, emails, Zalo, etc., have achieved encouraging results.
